📋 Creating, Editing, Deleting & Exporting Deviation Categories

Deviation categories in ValueStreamer are used to classify errors or problems in a structured way. This article explains how system administrators can create new categories, edit existing ones, deactivate, delete, or export them.

Create a new category

  1. Click the ⚙️ gear icon at the top right.

  2. Navigate to Problem Solving → Categories.

  3. Click "+" to create a new category.

  4. Enter a name in the overlay window.

  5. Click Save.

✏️ Edit an existing category

  1. Click a row in the table.

  2. Edit the name in the overlay.

  3. Save with Save.

🚫 Deactivate a category

  1. Select a category via checkbox.

  2. Click Deactivate in the toolbar.

  3. The category will no longer be selectable for new deviations but will remain in existing ones.


🗑️ Delete a category

  1. Select one or more categories via checkbox.

  2. Click Delete.

  3. Confirm in the security dialog.

📤 Export a category

  1. Open Problem Solving → Categories.

  2. Select the categories via checkbox.

  3. Click Export.

  4. The file will be downloaded in CSV format.

Export file contents:

Column Description
Name Name of the deviation category in all activated languages
Status Active or deactivated
 

The file is compatible with Excel, Google Sheets, and BI tools.


ℹ️ Notes

  • Deleted categories cannot be restored.

  • Deactivated and deleted categories remain visible in existing entries.

  • Export is only possible for selected categories – “Select all” via the table header is available.

💡 Use structured names (e.g., “1 Inventory,” “2 Defects”) for better sorting.
⚠️ Only delete categories that are not used by any team.
📤 Export regularly for backup and audit preparation.
🌍 Maintain consistent multilingual names for international teams.
🔍 Export data can help identify duplicates or outdated entries.

What happens to deactivated categories?
→ They are no longer selectable but remain visible in existing entries.

Can I export all categories at once?
